Okay here is my delima! My son is starting part time kindergarten in September, and I want to put my daughter in pre-school, and J in a after school program. I want to do that because I really think A would benefit from it and J too, they aren't around other kids much. Where we live isn't really swarming with children. And also I am sick of working retail. I want a real job. You know. I hate the hours I work, I hate working every weekend. I hate the entire atmosphere at my job. It just doesn't make me happy. Also I never have time with my entire family. I am home with the kids during the day, then JD gets home and I go to work. Yeah, the kids see us both, but we are never ALL together. So I need a real job. What do I do??? I HAVE NO FREAKING CLUE!
When I was engaged to JD I worked at a mortgage company doing clerical stuff, and then I worked at a doctors office doing medical records stuff. After that I got pregnant and have only worked part time off and on. So it's been retail. It's been about 5 years now. I am so lost. I don't know what I want to do, or what I even can do. Nothing sounds interesting, or if it does it sounds scary. I'm almost afraid to put myself out there.
I need to get on it now though. School starts in just a few weeks, and I wanted to do this all at the same time.
I never went to college, I am sorry only because a lot of jobs have that as a requirement. I don't wish I went though, I always new it wasn't for me. So I really don't know. Any suggestions? OR helpful hints? Or encouragement? SOMETHING??? Especially any other stay-at-home moms that have ventured out into the work world after so long. How did you do it? What did you do???

LOL jerk...I think you'd be a great Admin sweetie, you'll be surprised at how easy it is to remember the skills you think are dormant, just put yourself out there and like Damian said, have a little confidence in yourself, the right people will see your worth...:D:D
Jazz - I am sure you have accumulated a great deal of experience just from being a mom. (organization, scheduling, budgeting, interpersonal, multi-tasking, communication, etc.) Plus, your job in retail has helped hone your people-skills, I'm sure. Though I know retail makes you want to strangle people sometimes!
You could start by volunteering for a charity or non-profit group just to brush up on clerical/office skills. After you have been there a while, rejuvenate your resume and start sending it out.
You seem to have a great perosnality and some sharp wits about you...a positive attitude and confidence accounts for a lot in the workforce!

Remember the movie Office Space? What would you do if you had a billion dollars? Your answer is the career that would bring you the most happiness. Anyway, just looking at your 100 things about me! post, maybe you would like working at a bookstore? Shoestore? Selling purses? Definitely not a vet. Kindergarten teacher? Do you speak spanish, because I'm sure that skill alone could get you in the door at most offices as well as the basic clerical stuff. Now all of the above stuff I said was to just be nice. If I was really close to you, I would kick you in the butt and convince you to go to school. You don't have to get a degree, but you could get training or certification in something you enjoy. You have to get motivated. You don't know how lucky you are, you're only 24 and the world is at your feet, you just have to decide what direction to go. I wish I had that much freedom. Sorry, I'm always harsh like this to people I like.

Well I'm glad to be among the people you like, and I don't mind at all what you said! Thanks for being honest. Here's the thing, although I'm good a commissioned sales, I don't want to do it anymore. Unless it is Real Estate, which I am really concidering. I would have to go to school for that. See I wouldn't mind doing a certification class in something that interested me. But I just don't think I would ever do the regular college, you know? I even concidered going to Cosmitoligy school, but I don't want to do hair, or nails. I just wanted to do the massage and cosmetic classes. I worked in cosmetic/skin care for a few years too. I loved it. I would go to people's house's and do their make-up, I even got asked to do bridal parties, I could make a lot of money doing that too. But I'm just not sure. Is that a real job? Should I just do an office job? Hmmmmm.....
You just gave me a great idea. Way back in our early days my wife was into Avon, but she was not a great salesman. You mentioned you are good at commissioned sales, so maybe you could enjoy this, and to go along with this you could make even more money if you provided skin/cosmetic services to your customer. I've never heard of an Avon representative who went beyond the sale and actually took the time to apply the cosmetics themselves, so this might be the perfect niche for you!! And no schooling involved!!
LOL, I do it already! ha ha, when I had just had my son, 5 years ago, I started. True you can make money off it, but I ended up buying as much as I sold. So now I do it on the side, you know. If someone asks I order, but I'm not all gung ho into it now.
